KLAUS OBERMEYER: A SKIING PIONEER
To watch Klaus ski is to witness his true love of the sport. It all began in 1919, in Oberstaufen, Germany, the small Bavarian alpine village in which Klaus was born. There, his passion began at the early age of three. In 1947, Klaus arrived in Aspen, Colorado, where he followed his entrepreneurial spirit. Sensing that people would spend more time on the slopes if they had great looking ski clothes that kept them warm, dry, and comfortable. He set up shop, the original Sport Obermeyer, in the attic of his home. There, one of the first of countless innovations was born in the form of a down ski parka stitched together from his goose down comforter. Innovations continue to motivate Klaus and the company he started – his enthusiasm is contagious, his energy seemingly endless, and his optimism boundless.
